Radio Veloso - ...and other subjects

Radio Veloso is a DIY instrumental funk quartet from San Francisco, California, built around a sound that feels like a lost 70s movie soundtrack rescored for the modern Bay Area. Across afro-funk psychedelia, 90s hip-hop grit, and 60s soul warmth, the band draws a clear line back to touchstones like Money Mark, The Budos Band, and Tommy Guerrero — while carving out a groove that's distinctly their own.

Formed in 2017, Radio Veloso is the product of musical friendships more than a decade in the making. That long-run chemistry shows: the band's four members lock into arrangements with the kind of unspoken communication that usually only comes from years of playing together, whether in a packed backroom club or a local dive bar.

Three self-released EPs laid the groundwork for the band's evolving sound and steadily built a devoted following throughout San Francisco, Oakland, and the greater Bay Area. That groundwork paid off with the release of the band's debut full-length album, …and Other Subjects, on June 28, 2024 — a record that distilled years of live-honed arrangements into a cohesive, cinematic statement. The album marked Radio Veloso's arrival as a fully realized band, and provided guidance on where their sound has been headed ever since — most recently documented on Live at the Fireside Lounge (2025), a vinyl release capturing the band's live show in full flight.

Still based in San Francisco and still playing DIY instrumental groove for anyone with ears, Radio Veloso continues to build on the foundation …and Other Subjects laid down.
